The selected objects in the hands had no meaning behind me picking then. I just thought that the hand of my prosthetic arm would look nice in a scan form and just chose random objects i had laying around to use.
Out of the produced scans I think the false teeth one was my favourite, however all of them hold a certain appeal to me as there something in each I like but the false teeth that bit more. Some objects I tired to use were didn't work well due to the way the hand is made, and in turn effects the focus of the scanner. Also some were too small and as well didn't fit the style nor theme of the hand. Most of these scans. not the trial ones, will go into the stack of final images.
Given the way the hands turned out, I am going I may include quotes with it as the hands kind of represent that a person can do. For example the hand holding the cards, could mean gambling. And the hand with the skull in could mean death and so forth. So including quote will add another meaning to the scans which I think could work well.
'Experimental' scans
I had to also do some 'experimental' scans in which I had to experiment two objects and things to see what i could create. Here is a couple of example of these 'experimental' images.
The top one was created with my three fingers running down the scanner while the second image was created with my middle finger. Being a middle finger, i actually think the scan came out nice and is appropriate for the project.
Editing
All i did to my images in Lightroom, was to turn the black down of the background to eliminate and of the grain you get with scanning. I also turn browns up which in effect made the sides of the scans brown that fading into the black of the background which I think adds to the scans.
Book
For my book, given that the scans have a feel of antiquity, I am going to try to do a leather backed book that i think fits the theme. On the left hand page will be a quote in the middle of the page and on the right hand side is going to be the relevant scan to the quote. I want to keep the clean aspect to the book but also so that its intriguing to the viewer.
Evaluation
I am pleased with my scans, i much prefer the hands opposed to the 'experimental' ones. The experimental ones are of no difference to what any of the other people on the course did, nor what people do in general with scannography.
I didn't end up putting the quotes in as i felt it would have more meaning someone deciphering for themselves what the possible story/idea of each item in the hands was ; I may however create another book with the quotes in should I feel inclined to. The book ended up looking nice, I had a black leather rustic almost looking cover and the picture inside looked nice. I am pleased with the project and think I came up with a good idea.
