Mathew - Week 4 Ewen Spencer

In week 4 we visited White Cloth Gallery in which they was doing an exhibition of Ewen Spencers photographs. The photographs were of his fascination of youth and street culture. I didn't like any of his photographs as it didn't appeal to me at all, to me it just seems a boring subject to take pictures of.

But here is some examples of his work

Howard - Week 4 printing negatives

In week 4 we printed out 35mm. filmstrips, to do this we needed to load the negative holder inside the enlarger with our chosen negative, emulsion side down. We enlarged the image to the required size. We focused the images with the aperture at f2.8, so it fully open. We stopped the enlarger to f11 to make image sharper. Next place the photographic paper on the baseboard, emulsion side up. We first made a test strip print at 2 second intervals, and developed, fixed and washed the print.
We picked the right density based on the test strip and set the enlarger according. Then we produced a 5X4 print of the images.

Howard – Week 3 5X4 Photography

In this lesson we learned how to use a Sinar 5X4 camera to photography people in the style of Julia Margret Cameron photographs. We used 5X4 black and white paper to produce a negative like Fox Talbot.
The paper had an ISO of 6, so we needed a long exposure of about 5-8 seconds at aperture F8. The process to take the images is that we had to pull up the dark slide to take the photograph, then pull the shutter lever towards ourselves, set the shutter speed to the ‘T’ setting on the camera. Then press the shutter twice to take the photograph. Then we go to the darkroom and go through the process of developing it.
After we decided to do a reverse print using another sheet of paper and a contact frame. Then develop the picture.

Mathew - Week 2

In week 2 we got given the question When was it shot? We had been given 3 dates of main photography progression, 1827 - 1945, 1946 - 1999, 2000 - Present and told to find images from the eras. The images showed up how photography has progressed. We saw different styles of photographs, and also how colour pictures have developed. We have also seen from the different era, pictures of main things what have happened, such as the moon landing.

Mathew - week 1

In week 1 we were asked a question of ‘What is an artist?’ The people answered in the class and the overall majority answered with painters and not photographers. The three questions which were asked was, Is your person male or female? Are they from Europe or North America? Are they a painter or a photographer?

Tony - Week 4 Posters

In week 4 we had to make 3 A4 posters for our exhibition from stills from the video we made last week. We had to make a portrait with a border poster, a full picture portrait poster and a landscape poster.  We had to use Adobe Photoshop to make the posters.  These are the 3 I made,
