Under the tutorial of Howard Snowden, the
first week included working in the darkroom. Our objective was to create
photograms based around the likes of Man Ray and Moholy Nagy. The darkroom
consists of an enlarger, which was set to f8 for this project, I also had to make sure the toners were set to 0. I used the dial on the side of the
enlarger to focus the light projected to make it sharp. I then placed
the photographic paper shiny side up on the enlargers baseboard, making sure
that I didn’t touch the shiny side of the paper; next its time to place my chosen objects on the
photographic paper and set the timer to 4 seconds.
Then, after running the timer has run the light should switch off itself, its time to put the photogram into the first tray, which is filled with developer solution, for 2
minutes. Next the image is transported into the stop solution for 30 sec then
to the ‘fix’ solution for 5 minutes. After it has gone through all them process
it is placed into the rinse, consisting of water and then put
threw the dryer to produce the photogram.
