Abelardo’s technique was to cover all his windows with dark plastic
to stop any light coming in, to have complete darkness. He cut a hole in the
material he used on the windows, this allows an inverted image of outside to
appear on the walls of the room. He would then focus his large format camera on
the images on his wall and expose his film. In the beginning exposures took
five to ten hours.
In
recent years Abelardo Started to use colour film and positioned a lens over the
hole cut out of the plastic on the windows to improve the overall sharpness and
brightness of the image. He also started to use a prism to make the incoming
projection right side up. He has also shortened his exposure times, with thanks
to modern technology.
Some examples of how the images of out reflects onto the walls.
